  • Superstition still surrounds the Death of the Kamba Icon.

The Kamba music fraternity is preparing to bid farewell to one of its most celebrated instrumentalists, Bonface Kyambu, popularly known as Solo Sita or Solosita, whose exceptional guitar artistry helped define the sound of Kamba Benga music for decades.

Solo Sita passed away on July 3, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi after a prolonged illness. His family has not publicly disclosed the specific illness, although fellow musicians and supporters had, for months, appealed for financial assistance and prayers during his courageous battle.

Renowned for his extraordinary solo guitar skills, Solo Sita earned widespread admiration as one of the finest lead guitarists in the Kamba Benga genre. His signature rhythm and technical precision made him a sought-after collaborator, contributing to the success of legendary musicians including Newton Karish and Alex Kasau Katombi.

Beyond his instrumental brilliance, Solo Sita was also an accomplished vocalist whose inspirational lyrics, powerful voice, and humble character won him a loyal fan base across Kenya and beyond. As the frontman of Kyulu Boyz, he released a collection of songs that remain staples in Kamba Benga music.
