NAIROBI, Kenya 6 July 2026, President William Samoei Ruto on Monday received a briefing on the progress of the Government’s Nyota Programme and confirmed that a second round of business support funding will be released to beneficiaries this Friday.
In a statement , the Head of State said he was briefed at State House, Nairobi, ahead of the launch of the KSh3 billion second tranche under the programme’s business support component.
According to President Ruto, the new disbursement will benefit 122,000 small business owners across the country. Each beneficiary will receive KSh25,000. When combined with an identical amount paid out earlier in the year, every participant will have received a total of KSh50,000 in direct business support by the end of this week.
“With the launch of the KSh3 billion second tranche of the business support component for the 122,000 beneficiaries, each beneficiary will receive KSh25,000,” President Ruto stated. “In addition to a similar amount they had received earlier in the year, each beneficiary will have received a total of Kes. 50,000.

The decentralized launch is meant to ensure that recipients from different regions can participate without having to travel long distances to Nairobi. Government officials coordinating the Nyota Programme said county commissioners, business development officers, and local leaders will preside over the events.
“On Friday, the launch will take place in 18 venues across the country, bringing together all the beneficiaries from the 47 counties,” Ruto noted.
Beyond cash support, the Nyota Programme also includes a capacity-building element. The President confirmed that all 122,000 beneficiaries have already completed a business development skills training programme.

Government officials say the aim is to ensure that the funds disbursed translate into sustainable business growth rather than short-term consumption.
“Already, the beneficiaries have undergone a business development skills programme,” the President said in his update.
Officials involved in the training noted that the sessions were conducted in partnership with technical and vocational institutions, county business hubs, and private sector mentors. The curriculum was tailored to the needs of traders, artisans, agri-businesses, and service providers operating in both urban and rural areas.
The Nyota Programme, which stands for National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement - is a government initiative targeting young people and small business owners. While it has multiple components including skills training and job placement, the business support component is focused on providing direct capital to entrepreneurs to expand or stabilize their enterprises.
Book this slotThe programme is part of the administration’s broader plan to address unemployment, stimulate grassroots enterprise, and grow the informal sector, which employs millions of Kenyans. By injecting capital directly into small businesses, the government hopes to increase incomes, create jobs, and boost local economies.
The first tranche of KSh25,000 per beneficiary was disbursed earlier in 2026. With the second KSh3 billion payout now set for Friday, the total amount released under this component will reach KSh6 billion.
Economists and business associations have welcomed the continued support, saying small businesses remain the backbone of Kenya’s economy but often struggle to access affordable credit.
A business owner receiving KSh50,000 in total can use the funds to restock inventory, purchase equipment, pay rent, or invest in marketing. For many micro-enterprises operating with thin margins, that capital injection can mean the difference between closing shop and scaling up.
Book this slotThe government also views the programme as a way to formalize more businesses. Beneficiaries who receive the funds are registered in a central database, which makes it easier for future support, training, and market linkages.
President Ruto has repeatedly said that empowering “hustlers” and small traders is central to his economic agenda. The Nyota Programme is one of several initiatives, alongside the Hustler Fund and government procurement set-asides, aimed at putting money directly into the hands of ordinary Kenyans.
To ensure transparency, the Ministry in charge of the programme, in coordination with county governments, conducted a vetting and registration process to identify the 122,000 beneficiaries. Priority was given to young entrepreneurs, women, and persons with disabilities.
Officials say the funds will be sent directly to beneficiaries’ mobile money accounts or bank accounts to avoid middlemen. Monitoring teams will also follow up to track how the money is being used and to measure impact on business performance.
Book this slotThe briefing at State House was attended by senior officials from the relevant ministries and agencies tasked with implementing Nyota. The discussions centered on logistics for Friday’s launch, communication to beneficiaries, and mechanisms to prevent fraud.
Critics, however, have urged the government to ensure that the money is accompanied by continued mentorship and access to markets, arguing that one-off grants alone are not enough for long-term business survival.
With Friday’s launch, the government will have completed the first full cycle of business support under Nyota. Officials say data collected from this cohort will inform future phases of the programme.
President Ruto said the administration remains committed to supporting small businesses as a key driver of economic growth.
Book this slot“Our goal is to build an economy where every Kenyan with an idea and willingness to work has the capital and skills to succeed,” he said in previous remarks about Nyota.
The 18 launch venues on Friday are expected to feature speeches, business exhibitions by beneficiaries, and on-the-spot support from government agencies on registration, licensing, and market access.
As 122,000 entrepreneurs prepare to receive their second KSh25,000 installment, the Nyota Programme is positioning itself as one of the largest direct business support interventions for micro-enterprises in recent years.
