Linda Mwananchi Rally Kicks Off in Nyamira, Kisii Counties
By Clement Ouma
The ODM-Linda Mwananchi brigade has kicked off its tour of Nyamira and Kisii counties for a political rally as part of its continued engagements with Kenyans ahead of next year's general elections.
The Edwin Sifuna-led team is currently in Mosocho, where they are meeting with women from Nyamira County. The anticipated meeting dubbed ''Kikao na kina mama" highlights women's roles in Kenyan governance and political landscape, even as the team gears for the 2027 elections. The meeting is also meant to contribute funds for women in the county. As we speak, several leaders are speaking and contributing what they have for the women
After a meet-up session with women, the Linda Mwananchi-led faction will hold a mega rally in Kisii town, where they're expected to continue their onslaught against the President William Ruto regime as next year's elections draw near.
The Linda team, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakassi East MP Babu Owino, Muranga Governor Irungu Kang'ata, and Former Chief Justice David Maraga, among others, is also expected to touch on what they describe as Ruto's regime failures and drum up support for a one-term for the Kenya Kwanza government.
The team will also have a stopover at Keumbo as part of today's schedule before proceeding to Keroka in Kisii County, where they will engage residents. The rally at Keroka will mark the end of today's Kisii and Nyamira tour with the team expected to visit other regions in the coming days.
The rally comes a few days after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna made it clear in a radio interview that he can't work with President Ruto even if he supports his presidential bid. Sifuna also added that they're prepared to take the president head-on in next year's elections.
The rally also comes at a backdrop of disunity in the team as some disgruntled members express their discontent with the Linda team joining hands with the United Alternative Government to front a single presidential candidate to take on William Ruto at the ballot.
One of the team founders and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has publicly disagreed with the use of Linda Mwananchi joining hands with the opposition, claiming that Sifuna must be fronted as the presidential candidate.
The disagreement seems to rock the coalition within, with the Saboti MP saying that if Sifuna isn't fronted, there will be "breaking news".
